Following my personal message to everyone in my network, I’ve had the pleasure of engaging in some wonderful conversations—thank you for that! It’s a great start to the new year and provides a lot of inspiration for sharing knowledge and expertise.

In those conversations, we’ve talked a lot about our latest developments, which naturally led to the topic of unstructured data. This refers to data scattered across your entire network, where you often don’t know exactly where it resides or even what it contains. By “your entire network,” I literally mean everything:

  • Employee laptops with files they consider important enough to always keep with them (even offline). You can imagine this may include sensitive company information.
  • File servers with directories hopefully accessible to a select group of individuals. But how do you measure that? For instance, do you receive a monthly report of users with directory access? And is your Active Directory (AD) still up-to-date?
  • Applications that store their own data in databases. While these are often easier to manage, it’s still crucial to monitor what happens with OS files, as databases ultimately consist of “regular” files.

Experts in my network agree that we’re all in a hybrid situation when it comes to data. This means data is stored both on-premises and in the cloud. Larger organizations are often already working on classifying and securing structured data, but unstructured data is frequently postponed as a “we’ll deal with it later” kind of task. That doesn’t have to be the case! With Fryqua, you can get started right away. For example, begin by monitoring D:\*.* and receive a report detailing who is using which data. From there, you can optimize further.

Smaller organizations often need support with data classification. They’re looking for advice on where to start and how to approach it in a simple, practical way. While it may not be their core business, it still needs to be done. Fryqua is an effective tool that is quick to implement and affordable. With our advice, you’ll have your data classified in no time, including detailed reports on how and by whom your data is being used.

Would you like to brainstorm with me? As a Product Manager at Fryqua, I’d love to discuss the latest developments with you in areas such as NIS2, data security, and the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of data (BIV). Let’s explore the possibilities together!
